Aiming for a future free from identity theft, VeriME - a blockchain based, decentralized digital identity verification platform, has entered into a partnership with WeShop, Asia’s premier cross-border retail import-buying facilitation brand, to provide them with smooth and secure customer verification and authentication services.

This move, which was announced by company officials on Monday, 4th December, came shortly after VeriME successfully closed a deal with Ngan Luong, Vietnam’s largest online payment gateway, in the beginning of November.

Speaking on this partnership, WeShop Global Group’s CEO, Ms. Dao Lan Huong said, “The global fraud rates have risen substantially. With this partnership, our company aims to safeguard our merchants as well as facilitate smooth onboarding processes for new businesses”.

Identity theft, an issue which spiked sharply around a year back affecting 15 million citizens of the U.S alone, has caused considerable tension within the e-commerce sector. A study conducted on merchants across various e-commerce platforms found that 71 percent of fraud on any e-commerce store was related to  identity theft followed by account theft and phishing in the second and third places respectively.

That being said, identity theft isn’t the only problem bothering merchants online. There is the issue of transaction abandonment, which according to a study in U.K., is causing merchants to lose around 67% of their sales. This study, conducted on 19,000 people found that 21 percent of the consumers abort transactions due to lengthy buying processes, while  18 percent abort due to delays in payment processing.

Commenting on this partnership, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Co-Founder of VeriME,  said, “VeriME currently has around 15 Partners in Vietnam piloting our KYC and Authentication products. Our aim is to provide seamless, cost-effective and most innovative KYC and Authentication services using decentralized blockchain technology to millions of Users and Partners in the APAC region”.

Aside from their partnership with WeShop, the company also announced their collaboration with Moin, South Korea’s blockchain based cross-border remittance service provider. Moin, a company started in the year 2016 by Ian Suh, a software engineer at Samsung, offers its customers international money transfer services which bypass all financial middlemen involved, thereby saving them heavy transfer fees.

“We are currently in discussions with Payment Gateways, Remittance companies, Insurance, Marketplaces and other businesses that are in need of KYC and Payment Authentication solutions in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, India, and China. Our strategy is to penetrate into high-density Asian Markets in the coming 12-18 months and bring VeriME’s blockchain solution in the hands of every mobile phone subscriber” added Sanjeev Kumar.

VeriME is a Singapore based Fintech Startup offering blockchain based digital identity verification service (VaaS - Verification as a Service) which ensures that the user authentication and verification process isn’t reliant on any third party acting as a mediator.

Johnson: Putin glorifying hosting World Cup is sickening

Mar 21, 2018

LONDON — British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson says it is sickening to think of President Vladimir Putin "glorifying" in Russia hosting the World Cup. After the poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Britain said it would not send royals or government ministers to the soccer tournament, though the England team will compete. Speaking to Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday, Johnson agreed with a Labour lawmaker who likened the event to Adolf Hitler's use of the 1936 Olympics as a propaganda vehicle for his regime. "I think the comparison with 1936 is certainly right. I think it's...

Spring-themed cake for Prince Harry, Meghan's spring wedding

Mar 21, 2018

LONDON — Lemon, elderflower, fresh flower decorations: The cake for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's May wedding will be appropriately spring-themed. Kensington Palace said Tuesday the royal wedding cake will be a lemon elderflower concoction incorporating "the bright flavors of spring." It'll be covered with buttercream, and adorned with fresh flowers. Look for a hint of California too — the designated pastry chef Claire Ptak was raised in California and worked as a pastry chef under the celebrated Alice Waters at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Ptak now runs Violet Bakery in London. The palace says the couple are "very much...

At least 13 hurt after car rams into nightclub in Britain

LONDON — British police say a man who had been kicked out of a nightclub rammed his car into revelers on a dance floor, injuring at least 13 people. The Kent Police force says the 21-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over Saturday's crash in Gravesend, 30 miles (48 kilometers) southeast of London. Police say they are not treating the incident as terrorism. Footage posted on social media showed a large car on a dance floor inside a marquee tent at Blake's nightclub. On Facebook, the club thanked "the heroic actions of our door team and guests...

The 'force' with Mark Hamill at Dublin's St. Patrick's Day

Mar 21, 2018

LONDON — Mark Hamill has tweeted that "today the whole galaxy is Irish" as he appeared as international guest of honor at Dublin's St. Patrick's Day parade. The "Star Wars" actor, whose great-grandmother was born in Ireland, was invited to represent the Irish diaspora at the celebration. Hamill spent time on Ireland's rocky Skellig Michael island filming the most recent "Star Wars" movie, "The Last Jedi." Hamill sported a tweed cap, a green scarf and a shamrock sprig as he attended the parade, which sees floats, colorfully clad performers and marching bands wind their way through the Irish capital. "Game...

UK opposition leader: Don't rush to blame Moscow in spy case

Mar 21, 2018

LONDON — The United States and other allies have united behind the U.K. government in blaming Russia for the nerve-agent poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. But Britain's main opposition party is split over how firmly to point the finger at Moscow. Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn warned Friday that politicians shouldn't "rush way ahead of the evidence being gathered by the police," and evoked the flawed intelligence used to justify the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Writing in the Guardian newspaper, Corbyn said it is possible that "Russian mafia-like groups," rather than the Russian state, were...
